Reading Seminar for Parents, Kindergarten Reading Classes Offered

Parents and community members are invited to learn how to teach someone to read.

Elsinore First Assistance Center (EFAC) announced an open invitation to parents, grandparents, and guardians of kindergarten students to participate in Elsinore READ (Reading Early, Achieving Dreams), a program funded through a Verizon Literacy Grant. Designed to support early reading and high student achievement, Elsinore READ incorporates community volunteers as reading tutors, shows parents/guardians how to teach their children to read, and offers after-school reading classes directly to kindergartners.

The parent seminar will take place on October 21, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Training and curriculum will be provided to the first 50 families; registration is only $5. Reading classes will take place Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. beginning October 25 and ending December 2 (no classes on 11/11 or 11/25). Designed to support Kindergartners learning to read or wishing to strengthen their reading skills, this class is perfect for those learning to read English or for struggling readers. Small class sizes allow for one-on-one support with trained tutors and educators. Cost of registration is $5, which includes parent training and curriculum for the first 50 families.

EFAC Hosts 5-week Adult Literacy Class

Due to high interest among area adults, EFAC is pleased to offer another 5-week adult literacy class. Designed to support adults learning to read or wishing to strengthen their reading skills, this class is perfect for those learning to read English or for struggling readers. Small class sizes allow for one-on-one support with trained tutors and educators. The class is free, but purchase of curriculum is required. The book used is Vera Clark's Teach Me to Read English in 100 Easy Lessons and is available for purchase at the first class session.

EFAC to start Valley Arts Children's Theatre (VACT)

Valley Arts Children’s Theatre (VACT), a subsidiary of EFAC, is a performing arts program for children ages 7-18 years old. Our goal is to offer a professional theatre program for the youth in our community. We are funded through competitively priced tuition, donations, and grants (scholarships will be made available for students in need).
